Within the framework of “Accountability and Good Governance” Network supported by USAID, and as part of a consortium with North LEDA, ArabiaGIS started the phase two of Baldati Madinati as part of a grant from Baladi CAP to improve transparency and access to information North Lebanon.
The municipalities will be selected from three clusters “Union of Fayhaa – Tripoli”, “Union of Jurd Al-Qaytaa – Akkar” and “Cluster of Hadath Al-Jebbeh – Becharre” to establish an interactive forum where citizens and municipal institutions exchange information.
The project aims at working with advocacy champions within local communities to advocate municipalities to publish municipal data on BALADI CAP supported “Baldati – Madinati” online Forum.
Another objective is to allow citizens a direct tool to provide feedback and suggestions to municipal officials on ways to enhance service delivery.
With the joining of new municipalities to the already existing five municipalities of Jezzine Union of Municipalities, the platform and Baladi CAP initiative is now starting a new pilot experiment of implementing the “Access to Information” Law at the municipal level in Lebanon.
In addition, the platform provides now new cyber techniques to start community petitions and virtual advocacy techniques aimed at participatory decision-making, enhanced transparency, and improved service delivery.
The main objective of the platform is improving service delivery at the local level and encourage dialogue among Lebanese citizens on national issues, thus widening the democratic space at local community level.
